About 2 weeks ago Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced that they were opening their account for ad agencies to tender. This is after they had been with Batey Ads for 35 years. And the inevitable question predictably came up: Will the Singapore Girl, the icon of SIA, stay or will she go?

During the latter times, women (housewives) baked bread at home using an age old method that was time consuming. The modern day housewife does not have the time to bake home made bread the old way, and this gave rise to the bread machine. Today, we can buy bread, or make it easily at home using a modern day bread machine that will not just bake the bread, but it will bake the bread when you want it and keep it warm until you are ready to serve it.
Lunch was a two hour affair starting at 1PM consisting of four courses. There was a choice of set plans, but if you wanted to mix and match you could – I think the plans were only to make it easier for the elderly to make up their minds. With 1,200 people to feed in two sittings, the waiters try to speed selection up in very clever ways, but never outwardly. High tea was from 4 to 4:30PM: tea, coffee, bakeries in huntsville, biscuits and sandwiches.
Held on Thursdays from mid-May to mid-October, the Daley Plaza Farmer’s Market offers vendors selling fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, produce, baked goods, flowers, and prepared foods. It’s easily the largest of of the downtown farmer’s markets and a favorite among city office workers. Vendors include Lehman’s Orchards, Brunkow Cheese, Rise ‘N Roll, Misericordia, and many others. In the spring and summer, some vendors also sell live plants. The Daley Plaza Farmer’s Market does sometimes share space with other festivals. Daley Plaza is at City Hall, 50 W. Washington. Market hours are from 7 AM to 3 PM, but vendors will pack up sooner if they’ve sold out. Towards the end of the lunch hour, it’s possible to get discounts on unsold products.
Many of my childhood memories focus around meals; watching (and later helping) my mother cook for family dinners. I remember that I loved my Aunt May’s cakes because they tasted more like bought (a rare treat) than homemade. The first time I ever ate fried okra (my mama always boiled it.), my Aunt Eula brought it to a family dinner. She’d dipped it in cornmeal and fried it crisp and it was so good. I remember eating at her house with all the grownups sitting at the table and all the kids on the floor. There wasn’t any danger of dust or dirt or germs, that woman had a serious streak of clean.
I look at the bounty on my kitchen counter and wonder who I can invite to help my consume all of it; the peanut-butter-Hershey’s-Kisses cookies, the Galbo chips, the assorted candies that someone meticulously made (certainly well into the early hours of the morning), the chocolates, shortbread, meringues and the list still goes on. Then I realize that I would very likely be inviting many of the friends who gave theses as gifts to share in my pleasure.
